Cadboro Bay

This series of oil paintings explores the passage of time, light, and season through the singular landscape of Ten Mile Point, Cadboro Bay in Victoria, British Columbia. By returning to the same coastal vista under shifting conditions, the work examines the tension between permanence and transience in the natural world.

Two central figures ground each composition: a lone tree standing resilient at the water’s edge, and a yellow canoe sheltered quietly beneath the shoreline bushes. These elements function as silent sentries. They remain still while the atmosphere around them moves through dramatic cycles of change—from the crisp, cool light of a winter dawn to the fiery golden warmth of a summer sunset. The series invites the viewer to pause and observe the quiet persistence of these coastal fixtures, offering a space for reflection in an ever-changing world.
