Bernini Dialogue

These are paintings of some of my favourite Bernini sculptures found in the Villa Borghese, Rome. I have always been captivated by the genius and beauty of Bernini’s sculptures, turning stone into flesh. I am struck by the universality and timelessness of his message: His sculpture of Aeneas, Anchises and Ascanius fleeing Troy has never been more relevant in a contemporary world of refugees; David speaks to underdogs everywhere who seek to prevail over a stronger enemy; Apollo and Daphne depicts the moment Daphne turns into a tree to escape the unwanted attentions of Apollo, a “me too” moment for the ages.
