Painter
My practice includes still life, portrait, figurative, and landscape work. An important focus of my work is my family and home environment both in Toronto and Palm Beach. I am particularly interested in the story of my own life, searching my past for the key to understanding my present and embracing the future.

Marie Finkelstein
I am a Toronto painter who works primarily in oil on canvas and wood. I have exhibited in solo and group shows in Toronto, Whitby, and Ottawa. In 2005, I was a finalist in the Kingston Portrait Prize Competition, and I appeared as one of the selected artists on the 2009 Bravo! Television series, Star Portraits. In 2011, I completed a commission of four paintings for the permanent collection at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Toronto. Currently, my work is in private and public collections across Canada. My next solo show, Life, A Celebration!, will open in October 2025. I studied art in Montreal, where I was born and raised, and Banff, Boston, and Toronto.
A recurring interest in my practice is the effect of light and transition to shadow, both in my figurative and landscape work.

Life, A Celebration!
My recent work will be exhibited at Gallery 1313 from October 15 to 26, 2025. This exhibition of drawings and paintings celebrates life in different ways – in the beauty of dancing palms, the billowing of clouds over reflecting seas, and in the poignancy of life’s transitions and family connections.
